Polymerkette in Cane-Technik 

Heute stelle ich eine Kette aus Polymerclay vor. Die Anleitung stammt aus dem Buch "The Polymer Clay Artist`s Guide" von Marie Segal (Seite 83).
Die einzelnen Arbeitsschritte habe ich in Fotos festgehalten und werde dazu eine kurze Erläuterung geben..
Man sollte mit einem kleinen Übungsstück beginnen, damit man die Technik beherrscht.
Die Frage, wieviel Material ich für eine Kette benötige, lässt sich nur durch Eigenversuche beantworten. Ich habe immer den Fehler gemacht, zu wenig Musterblöcke ( Canes ) vorzubereiten. Das Muster lässt sich schlecht reproduzieren. Lieber etwas mehr Material vorbereiten. Die Reste kann man für viele Einzelteile
verwenden.Tipp: Übrig gebliebenen Clay gut in Haushaltsfolie einwickeln,  damit er nicht austrocknet.

Today I present you a necklace in polymerclay. The tutorial comes from the book The Polymer Clay Artist`s Guide" von Marie Segal (Page 83).
I took photos of the work steps and going to give you a short summary of what I did.
You should start with a small testing peace, to get to know the technique. The question of how much material you need, you can only learn through self experimenting. I always did the mistake of not preparing enough sample block (canes). The the sample is too hard to reproduce. Better to prepare a bit more material. The rest you can use for many individual parts.
Tip: Wrap leftover clay carfully in kitchen foil to prevent curing.

1.Schritt
Weißen oder transparenten Clay 3 oder mehr mm dick ausrollen und mit einem runden Holzstäbchen Rillen eindrücken.

Step 1:
Roll out white or transparent clay 3 or more mm thick and impress groves with a little staff.

2.Schritt
In diese Kanäle bunte Claywülste legen, die man vorher mit der Hand dünn ausgerollt hat.

Step 2:
Put colorfull clay sausages (you prepared rolling them in your hand until they have the right thickness) in these grooves

3.Schritt
Überstehende bunte Rollen abschneiden und eine gleich große Platte mit Rillen,  die ebenfalls mit dem Holzstäbchen eingedrückt wurden, darüber legen und gut andrücken.

Vorsichtig den Block verlängern (Technik siehe Buch)  Wenn man zu viel rollt, werden die bunten Rollen platt gedrückt.
Den Block jetzt in der Hälfte längs durchschneiden und farblich passend aufeinander legen. Diesen Schritt mehrmals wiederholen.
Step 3
Cut off overhanging rolls and put another white clay sheet with identical grooves on top of it and press them firmly together.
Reduce the whole piece inwards along the side edges so that it lengthens in the direction that the logs lie.Cut in half and stack one half on top of the other, cut edges together. Repeat this lenghthening till you have 16 layers in the stack.

4.Schritt
Mit dem vorbereiteten Block kann man nun Wattekugeln ummanteln (siehe auch Projekt 1)
Dafür mit dem Cutter dünne Scheiben (ca. 1-2 mm dick) abschneiden.
Step 4
With the prepared block you can now cover cotton balls ( look project 1) For this cut thin slices from end of the block.

Und so sieht die fertige Kette aus. Die Kugelgröße nimmt zum Verschluss hin ab, damit die Kette im Nackenbereich nicht als störend empfunden wird. Zwischen den Kugeln wurde eine Rocaille aufgefädelt.

And this is how the finished necklace looks. The size of the balls decreases in the direction of the clasp, this way the necklace is not percived as bothering in the neck area. In between the balls I threaded a Rocaille.
